Free Blowouts/Make-up Services & Hair Care Products For The Homeless at FLOW Blow Dry & Beauty Bar
FLOW Blow Dry & Beauty Bar now offers complimentary blowout/ make-up services and hair care products to women living in Reston Interfaith’s Embry Rucker Community Shelter as part of FLOW Cares “Be Beautiful, Be Strong” campaign. The ongoing campaign will promote self confidence, positivity, strength and self esteem for women who are experiencing less fortunate situations.
The first clients came in for blowouts on July 29th, 2013. Beatrice*, a victim of domestic violence, decided enough was enough. One day, she packed all of her belongings and left Georgia with her daughter and granddaughter. They drove where no one could find them- and ended up in Virginia. After running out of money and their car breaking down, she turned to Reston Interfaith until they get back on their feet. The mother and daughter are currently looking for jobs and will be interviewing soon. “We are appreciative that FLOW is doing this and think it’s a great idea to help women feel good about themselves. Now we will look our best on our job search”.
Beatrice* was inspirational to FLOW employees. Despite her situation, she was very optimistic and positive, and told the staff that, “everything happens for a reason and you go through trials and errors in life”.
Reston Interfaith’s Embry Rucker Community shelter is a 70-bed residential shelter in Reston that provides healthy, safe, emergency housing. They are dedicated to helping families, women and men overcome the circumstances that led to their homelessness, and facilitate their transition to stable housing.
Each month, two single ladies or moms at the shelter will be invited to FLOW for blowouts or make-up services. They will receive support, encouragement, and even hair and make-up tips, from FLOW staff. The goal is to make each woman feel beautiful, and to empower them to feel confident as they transition from the shelter. The visits will not be announced to the public to protect privacy, and transportation to and from FLOW will be provided by Reston Interfaith. FLOW staff will also visit the shelter every few months to give hair and make-up lessons and tips. This will be a fun event that will give the women something to look forward to. FLOW will also ask its clients to donate unused shampoos and conditioners to be donated to the shelter.
‘FLOW Cares’ is a do-good/feel-good mission that supports local charities, schools, non-profits and community causes through the donation of gift cards or services. The “Be Beautiful, Be Strong’ campaign is part of this mission.
